Draught of the model of a raft

Assignment: Model of a raft for transporting timber.

Client: Museo Nazionale di Arti e Tradizioni Popolari di Roma.

Date: 1997

This is a replica of a model made in the 1950s kept at the Correr Museum, Venice. This type of raft was the most common way of transporting timber from the mountains to the Venetian Lagoon: beams and planks were tied together with sache di nocciolo so as to form a raft that could go down river following the current and steered using long oar-rudders. The model is 147.8 cm long, 27.6 cm wide, 19.4 cm high, non-uniform scale. The measurements taken together with Antonio Rosada are shown in drawings P 8  to P 25.
