Processing the Information

The late lamented squerariolo Nedis Tramontin who  provided us with all the information regarding the gondola.

The most important sources of information regarding Venetian boats are, obviously, the people who build and use them: boatbuilders, craftsmen, fishermen, riggers, etc. As well as providing abstract information, they are the only sources who can provide us with the infinite mass of details and nuances contained in their tried and tested methods. We have attempted - with our limited time and means -  to contact as many of these people as possible, saving their notebooks, transcribing their vocabulary, and making audio/video recordings of their teaching. I would like to thank all of them, and I apologise if I have forgotten to acknowledge any of them. This long list, a sort of 'anthropography', is constantly updated, even if this is increasingly difficult given the average age of the individuals concerned.
